The State of Asian American Affairs and The Daily Texan
"The State of Asian American Affairs" is a compiled report about Asian American student affairs in the University of Texas at Austin. The report highlights trends of mistreatment and neglect of the Asian American student community by the UT administrators, points out that these trends are not new, and that Asian American students have been meeting with administration about these issues for the past 15 years with little significant progress from the administrators. One of the other purposes of this report is to archive these experiences, events, and trends so that they get addressed. In the past, Asian American students have been meeting with the administrators, served on committees, and have been promised change, but as each class graduates, their efforts are forgotten. Free copies have been printed and are available in the Multicultural Information Center (MIC) in SSB 1.104.
APAC's Role:
The report is about the experiences of a diverse range of Asian American students and was compiled by certain members of APAC. APAC is an agency housed in the Multicultural Information Center, under the Office of Vice President of Student Affairs. The agency puts on various unity events such as the "You Bring Out the Asian American in Me" welcome event and the "Asian American Excellence awards" which recognizes leadership in our community. Like the rest of the Multicultural Information Center, we act as a safe space for students of color and offer students a variety of resources. The report is a compilation of experiences from various Asian American students who have used the MIC resources.
